В 1943 году во время налета церковь была сильно повреждена взрывом бомбы, кровля и внутренняя архитектура целиком утрачены. Уцелели только внешние стены с высокими треугольными завершениями травей и высокая башня с западной стороны. Церковь решили не восстанавливать, только законсервировали руины, оставив ее как зримый образ – напоминание о бедственных разрушениях Второй мировой войны.
