С давних времен лилии считаются символом красоты и совершенства. Изящество форм, восхитительная гармония стеблей, листьев и цветов принесли лилии всемирную славу и популярность. Предполагают, что название цветка происходит от древнегреческого слова "лейрион" - "белая", либо от древнекельтского "лилиум" ("чисто белый").
