Достоинства: This is one of the best lenses I have ever had - performs well in almost all conditions and the fixed aperture of f/2.8 is a bliss. Super sharp and great image quality.
It is absolutely true that this lens is the best general purpose lens for Canon crop sensors - tried it out in all possible conditions - blizzard, scorching heat, salty wind...
Great for almost anything you can come up with!
I've used it and it works great for:
- events
- night photography
- landscape
- travel
- food and object photography
- portraits
I especially love the focus adjust function and the silent focusing motor.
It is absolutely true that this lens is the best general purpose lens for Canon crop sensors - tried it out in all possible conditions - blizzard, scorching heat, salty wind...

Недостатки: One of the main problems with the lens is the price - it is the most expensive lens in this focal range and even though it really is the best lens of this type for crop cameras, the only thing it lacks is the L in the end.
It is a heavy lens which you should consider in case you are not a strong 6-feet tall man. I can handle it but it is a bit of a workout :) Never mind, the quality of the images makes up for the above two.
The lens is prone to chromatic aberrations (quite a lot) but they can be corrected with just one click in Lightroom.
The lens is NOT good for:
- macro and close up because of the minimal focusing distance (the exact number escapes me but I think it's more than 20 centimeters) but it will do great if you shoot flowers.
- wildlife would be tricky since it's not a telephoto but I've tried it out on animals and it works out great either way. You just have to get closer.

Достоинства: Великолепный объектив: очень четкое изображение, практически нет искажений, быстрая фокусировка.
Недостатки: к сожалению очень быстро (за 2.5 -3 года) испортился - порвался внутри флет кабель к блоку диафрагмы - сейчас в ремонте посмотрим что получится
Достоинства: After I purchased my Canon 60D I wanted to upgrade from a kit lens. I was in the stage of discovering myself and wasn't sure what type of lens to buy. I wanted a lens for a general use with some interest in landscape photography. I hit the nail with this lens. It is an excellent all-purpose lens. Very fast and good in low light. It's hard to miss the focus. I have taken shots with this lens in churches in very low light conditions at 1/15 sec. (hand held) and had sharp images. Produces high image quality. The best feature of this lens is fixed 2.8 aperture through the entire focal length. I'm very happy with this lens and use it all the time for all my landscape and nature shots. Optical performance is comparable with L lenses.

Недостатки: 1. I wouldn't recommend it for portrait photos as it does not produce a nice bokeh.
2. It is only for cropped sensor camera.
3. The zoom is external so it can be annoying, but the quality of the image is very good so this doesn't bother me that much.
