On a beach in Goa, I witnessed a scene that could never have been staged: on the right, a young woman in a swimsuit is persistently pushing a stroller across the wet sand; on the left, an older couple in hats walks toward her, carefully shielding themselves from the sun. They are still far from each other, but it is already clear: they cannot help but meet. In a single frame, two - or, counting the child in the stroller, three - generations converge: those just entering life, those living it in its prime, and those who have learned to take care of themselves.
In the second frame, I deliberately move away from the young woman, imagining how many years later she herself will walk along this shore from the left, dressed, in a hat, and another young woman pushing a stroller will appear in front of her. Thus a simple walk along the beach turns into a symbol of cyclicality and, in a sense, the immortality of humanity: we replace one another, but the pattern of movement remains the same.
